WhatsApp fonts are Unicode text styles, such as πΈππππΎπβ―, π€π¬π±π₯π¦π and ββ€ββββ, that you copy from this generator and paste into your WhatsApp name, About and chats. WhatsApp's own formatting codes cover only bold, italic, strikethrough and monospace inside messages, so every other look comes from Unicode.
WhatsApp formatting codes
WhatsApp has 8 built-in formatting codes, listed in the WhatsApp Help Center. They format a message after it is sent and keep the letters plain:
| Format | Type this | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Italic | _text_ | text |
| Bold | *text* | text |
| Strikethrough | ~text~ | |
| Monospace | ```text``` | text |
| Inline code | `text` | text (highlighted) |
| Bulleted list | * text or - text | β’ text |
| Numbered list | 1. text | 1. text |
| Quote | > text | Quoted line |
The inline code, list and quote formats were added in February 2024.
WhatsApp fonts vs formatting codes
Formatting codes are the better choice for bold, italic and strikethrough inside messages, and Unicode fonts are the only choice everywhere else. The table shows which method works where:
| Where | Formatting codes | Unicode fonts |
|---|---|---|
| Chat messages | Bold, italic, strike, monospace | Every style |
| Profile name | Not supported (codes format messages) | Every style |
| About | Not supported (codes format messages) | Every style |
| Cursive, gothic, bubble, small caps | No code exists | πβ―π πΆπ’π° β¨ββ’ |
| Underline | No code exists | yΜ²eΜ²sΜ² |
| Searchable in chat search | Letters stay plain | Styled letters are different characters |
Fonts for WhatsApp About and name
The WhatsApp About holds 139 characters (the limit WhatsApp's Business Platform documents for business profiles) and accepts every Unicode style. The profile name holds 25 characters. A styled name such as π’πͺπ»πͺ β‘ uses 6 of the 25 characters.
These 3 About lines fit well within 139 characters:
- Κα΄κ±Κ, α΄α΄xα΄ α΄α΄ β
- βΛβΉβ‘ α΄Ι΄ α΄ α΄α΄α΄α΄Ιͺα΄Ι΄ β‘βΉΛβ
- βπΎπβ―, ππΆπβπ½, πβ΄πβ― β
WhatsApp monospace: code or Unicode?
WhatsApp monospace has 2 forms: the triple-backtick code ```text```, which formats a sent message, and Unicode monospace
letters (πππ‘π), which work in names and the About. The monospace text
generator converts letters and digits to the Unicode version.
Can screen readers read WhatsApp fonts?
Screen readers read WhatsApp formatting codes normally but handle Unicode fonts inconsistently. In Adrian Roselli's 2025 tests, TalkBack on Android read styled letters as normal words, VoiceOver on iPadOS skipped them, and JAWS read them letter by letter by Unicode name. A contact using VoiceOver on an iPhone hears nothing for a fully styled About. The fancy text accessibility guide covers the trade-offs.

WhatsApp fonts questions
How do I write in bold on WhatsApp?
Put an asterisk on both sides of the text: *hello* sends as bold. WhatsApp also has _italic_, ~strikethrough~ and ```monospace``` codes. The bold code works only inside messages; a bold name or About needs Unicode bold letters from the generator.
Does WhatsApp have an underline code?
No. WhatsAppβs 8 formatting codes cover italic, bold, strikethrough, monospace, inline code, bulleted lists, numbered lists and quotes. Underlined text on WhatsApp is made with the Unicode combining low line, which the underline style on this page adds after each letter.
Can people search my WhatsApp messages written in fancy fonts?
Messages written with WhatsAppβs own codes stay searchable because the letters are plain. Messages written in Unicode fonts use different characters, so a chat search for the plain word does not find the styled word.
