Fancy Text to Normal Text Converter
- Normal text 11 chars Hello World
Fancy text to normal text converter turns Unicode-styled letters such as ๐๐ฎ๐ต๐ต๐ธ ๐๐จ๐ซ๐ฅ๐ back into plain letters ("Hello World") that search boxes, screen readers, spreadsheets and username fields accept. It also strips strikethrough lines, underlines and zalgo marks, and un-flips upside down text when the checkbox is ticked.
Which fancy text styles convert back to normal?
17 of the 28 styles tested convert back exactly, 9 return the right letters but lose capitalisation, and 2 cannot be reversed automatically. The test input is "Hello World 123":

The table is generated from the converter itself each time the site is built, so it always matches what the tool does.
How does the converter turn fancy letters back into plain text?
The converter runs 3 steps on the pasted text:
- Remove combining marks. It decomposes the text (Unicode NFD) and deletes every character in the combining ranges U+0300โU+036F, U+1AB0โU+1AFF and U+20D0โU+20FF, plus variation selectors. This removes strikethrough, underline and glitch marks.
- Map look-alikes. It replaces each styled character with the Latin letter it came from, using a table built from every style on this site. This step handles small caps (ส โ h), superscript (สฐ โ h), faux Cyrillic (ะ โ A) and Japanese-look letters, which Unicode normalisation does not touch.
- Normalise (NFKC). It applies Unicode compatibility normalisation, which maps Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols (๐ โ H), Letterlike Symbols (โ โ H), circled letters (โฝ โ H) and fullwidth letters (๏ผจ โ H) to their plain equivalents.
NFKC alone reverses the 13 mathematical alphabets because Unicode defines every letter and digit in those alphabets as a compatibility equivalent of a plain letter or digit. Small caps and IPA look-alikes have no such definition, which is why step 2 exists. The page on how fancy text works explains these Unicode blocks.
Why can't mirror text and Wingdings be converted back?
Mirror text and Wingdings cannot be converted back automatically because their characters are ambiguous. In mirror text, "b" stands for a flipped "d" but is also a real "b", and digits are not mirrored at all, so the converter cannot tell which letters were flipped. Wingdings characters are ordinary symbols such as โ and โ with no link to letters in Unicode; the Wingdings translator decodes them in both directions. Upside down text is reversible because the converter knows the full flip table, but it needs the "Text is upside down" checkbox, since letters such as "o" and "s" look the same both ways.
When do you need to convert fancy text to normal text?
Fancy text needs converting in 5 common situations:
- A username field rejects a name copied from a styled profile.
- A search for a styled name returns nothing, because ๐๐จ๐ก๐ง and John are different characters.
- A spreadsheet or CRM import receives names from social profiles and sorts them out of order.
- A screen reader spells a styled message out letter by letter or skips it (see fancy text accessibility).
- A glitch-text message covers other messages in a chat and needs cleaning before quoting it.

Fancy text to normal text questions
Why did my converted text lose its capital letters?
Small caps, superscript, subscript, square and black bubble styles have only one case, so the original capitalisation is not stored in the fancy text. The converter returns lowercase for small caps and superscript, and capitals for square and black bubble letters.
Does the converter keep accented letters?
Yes, when a letter carries exactly 1 accent that forms a standard precomposed letter: "cafรฉ" and "naรฏve" stay unchanged. A letter that carries 2 or more combining marks, or a strikethrough, underline or slash mark, is reduced to its base letter, because zalgo, strikethrough and underline styles are built from those marks.
Can I convert normal text to fancy text here?
No. This page only reverses styles. The aesthetic font generator converts plain text into every fancy style.
