How to Change Font on TikTok
To change the font on TikTok, paste text that is already styled with Unicode characters into your name, bio or caption, because TikTok has no font setting for profile text. On-screen text inside a video is different: the video editor's text tool has its own fonts. The styled profile text comes from the TikTok fonts generator, which counts against the 30-character name limit.
Which TikTok text can change font?
4 kinds of TikTok text can change font, and the username cannot:
| Text | How | Rule |
|---|---|---|
| Name | Paste Unicode-styled text | 30 characters; 1 change per 7 days |
| Bio | Paste Unicode-styled text | Check the in-app counter |
| Caption | Paste Unicode-styled text | Styled letters cost 2 UTF-16 units each |
| Video text | Video editor text tool | Fonts become part of the video |
| Username | Not possible | Letters, numbers, _ and . only; 1 change per 30 days |
How to change font on TikTok name
You change the font of your TikTok name in 5 steps:
- Type the name into the TikTok fonts generator and check that the counter stays at 30 or below.
- Tap Copy next to the style you want.
- Open TikTok, go to your profile and tap Edit profile.
- Tap Name, delete the old name and paste the styled one.
- Save. TikTok allows the next name change after 7 days, so check the result before saving.
"๐๐ฎ๐ธ โ ๊ฑแดแดแดแด" is 11 characters: a styled first name, a symbol and a small caps tag. TikTok's support page on nicknames gives the 30-character limit and the 7-day rule.
Can you change the font of your TikTok username?
No. TikTok's support page states that usernames can only contain letters, numbers, underscores and periods, and that a period cannot be the last character. A styled username is rejected when you save it. The username can change once every 30 days, but only to another plain-letter username.
How to change font on TikTok bio and captions
You change the font of a TikTok bio or caption by pasting styled text while editing it, the same way as the name. 2 rules keep the text working:
- Keep hashtags and @mentions plain. #๐๐ธ๐ฎ๐๐ฒ is a different tag from #skate, and a styled mention does not link.
- Prefer BMP styles for long captions. TikTok's Content Posting API counts captions in UTF-16 units with a 2,200 cap, and bold, italic or cursive letters cost 2 units each, while small caps (๊ฑแดแดแดแด) and bubble letters (โขโโโฃโ) cost 1.
How to change font on TikTok videos
You change the font of text inside a TikTok video with the editor's text tool: add text to the clip, then pick one of the fonts the tool offers. Those fonts are drawn into the video, so viewers see them exactly as placed, but the text cannot be copied, searched or read by a screen reader. Unicode styles also paste into the video text box and keep their shape, because they are characters, not a font setting.
Why does my TikTok font look different on other phones?
A styled TikTok name looks different on other phones because each phone draws Unicode characters with its own installed fonts. The letters keep their style (bold stays bold, cursive stays cursive), but exact shapes differ between iPhone and Android, and a phone without a font for a rare symbol shows an empty box. The guide why fancy text shows boxes lists the characters that fail most often, and the fancy text accessibility guide covers how screen readers read styled names.
