Small text generator converts normal letters into 3 sets of small Unicode characters: small caps (ꜱᴍᴀʟʟ ᴄᴀᴘꜱ), tiny superscript text (ᵗⁱⁿʸ ᵗᵉˣᵗ) and subscript (ₛᵤbₛcᵣᵢₚₜ). The output is plain text, so it can be copied into Discord names, Instagram bios and TikTok captions.
What are the 3 types of small text?
The 3 small text styles differ in size, position and how many letters exist:
| Style | Example | Position | Letters available | Digits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Small caps | ꜱᴍᴀʟʟ ᴄᴀᴘꜱ | On the baseline, x-height | 24 of 26 (no q, x) | None |
| Superscript (tiny) | ᵗⁱⁿʸ ¹²³ | Raised | 25 of 26 (q kept plain) | 0–9 |
| Subscript | ₛᵤb ₁₂₃ | Lowered | 17 of 26 | 0–9 |
None of the 3 styles has its own Unicode block. The letters were encoded for phonetic transcription (IPA) and linguistics, and the generator collects them from 6 blocks: IPA Extensions, Phonetic Extensions, Phonetic Extensions Supplement, Spacing Modifier Letters, Superscripts and Subscripts, and Latin Extended-D.
Small caps generator (ᴀʙᴄ copy and paste)
Small caps are capital-letter shapes drawn at lowercase height, such as ᴀᴇꜱᴛʜᴇᴛɪᴄ. The generator converts both uppercase and lowercase input to small caps, because Unicode encodes only one small-capital form per letter.
| ᴀa | ʙb | ᴄc | ᴅd | ᴇe | ꜰf | ɢg | ʜh | ɪi | ᴊj | ᴋk | ʟl | ᴍm | ɴn | ᴏo | ᴘp | ʀr | ꜱs | ᴛt | ᴜu | ᴠv | ᴡw | xx | ʏy | ᴢz |
2 letters are missing: q and x. Unicode added a small capital Q (ꞯ, U+A7AF) in 2018, but most phone fonts still draw it as a box, and no small capital X exists. 2 letters come from Latin Extended-D rather than the phonetic blocks: ꜰ (U+A730) and ꜱ (U+A731).
Superscript text generator (tiny text)
Superscript text, often called tiny text, uses raised modifier letters such as ᵗⁱⁿʸ ᵗᵉˣᵗ. It is the smallest style and covers 25 letters, all 10 digits and the signs + − = ( ).
| ᵃa | ᵇb | ᶜc | ᵈd | ᵉe | ᶠf | ᵍg | ʰh | ⁱi | ʲj | ᵏk | ˡl | ᵐm | ⁿn | ᵒo | ᵖp | ʳr | ˢs | ᵗt | ᵘu | ᵛv | ʷw | ˣx | ʸy | ᶻz |
| ⁰0 | ¹1 | ²2 | ³3 | ⁴4 | ⁵5 | ⁶6 | ⁷7 | ⁸8 | ⁹9 |
Superscript q exists as 𐞥 (U+107A5), added in Unicode 14.0 in 2021, but few fonts draw it, so the generator keeps q full size. The digits ¹ ² ³ come from the Latin-1 Supplement block (U+00B9, U+00B2, U+00B3), while ⁰ and ⁴–⁹ come from Superscripts and Subscripts (U+2070–U+2079). Some fonts draw the two groups at slightly different heights.
Subscript text generator
Subscript text lowers letters below the baseline, as in H₂O. Fonts widely support subscripts for 17 lowercase letters: a e h i j k l m n o p r s t u v x. Unicode 18.0 (September 2026) added subscript w, y and z (U+209D–U+209F), which almost no font draws yet.
| ₐa | bb | cc | dd | ₑe | ff | gg | ₕh | ᵢi | ⱼj | ₖk | ₗl | ₘm | ₙn | ₒo | ₚp | ᵣr | ₛs | ₜt | ᵤu | ᵥv | ww | ₓx | yy | zz |
| ₀0 | ₁1 | ₂2 | ₃3 | ₄4 | ₅5 | ₆6 | ₇7 | ₈8 | ₉9 |
The 6 letters b c d f g q have no subscript form, and w y z have no font support yet, so these 9 letters stay normal size. Other generators fill these gaps with Greek or superscript letters, which mixes raised and lowered characters in one word; this generator leaves them plain. Subscript digits ₀–₉ (U+2080–U+2089) are complete, which makes subscript most useful for chemical formulas such as CO₂ and H₂O.
How do you make small text on Discord?
Discord has 2 ways to make small text: the -# subtext prefix in messages, and small Unicode characters from this generator.
The -# prefix shrinks a whole line but works only in message text. Small caps and superscript work in display names, server
names and channel names too. The Discord text formatting guide lists every markdown code,
and the Discord fonts page filters styles to Discord's fields.
Does small text save characters?
No. Each small caps, superscript or subscript letter is still 1 character, so tiny text never fits more words into a bio limit. All small caps, superscript and subscript letters sit inside the Basic Multilingual Plane and take 1 UTF-16 code unit each, so small text counts the same as plain text in UTF-16 counters. X is the exception: it weighs every character at or above U+1100 as 2, which covers most small caps and superscript letters (ᴀ is U+1D00, ᵃ is U+1D43). The social media character limits page compares limits per field.

Small caps sit naturally inside frames and hearts on the cute font generator. For the opposite effect, the wide text generator spreads letters into full-width characters. Small text copied from elsewhere converts back to normal letters with the fancy text to normal text converter.
Small text questions
Why are some letters not small in my tiny text?
Unicode has no small capital X and no subscript b, c, d, f, g or q. Superscript q (U+107A5), small capital Q (U+A7AF) and subscript w, y and z exist but few fonts draw them, so the generator keeps those letters plain. They stay normal size instead of being replaced by look-alike Greek or IPA letters.
Is Discord small text the same as this?
No. Discord’s -# prefix makes a whole message line smaller as formatting, and only inside Discord messages. Small caps and superscript characters from this generator are real characters, so they also work in Discord display names, server names and other apps.
Can I make capital letters tiny?
The tiny (superscript) style converts every letter to its lowercase superscript form, because Unicode has no superscript capital X, Y or Z, and its superscript capitals C, F, Q and S were added only in Unicode 14.0 and 17.0, so few fonts draw them. Small caps keep a capital-letter shape at lowercase height.
