Fortnite fonts are Unicode text styles, such as ᴘʀᴏɢᴀᴍᴇʀ or ＰｒｏＧａｍｅｒ, that you paste into your Epic Games display name, which is the name Fortnite shows above your character and in the lobby. The counter above checks each style against the 16-character maximum.
Fortnite name rules
Fortnite names follow Epic's display-name rules, which set 3 limits and 4 content bans:

Epic's help page does not list which Unicode characters a display name may contain. Any styled font therefore needs a check in the display-name field itself before you commit to it, because a rejected or regretted name is locked for 2 weeks.
Which Fortnite fonts fit in 16 characters?
Small caps and wide letters fit Fortnite's 16-character limit most easily, because each letter is 1 character under every counting method. Bold and cursive letters are 1 character each but 2 UTF-16 units each. Epic does not document which unit its limit counts, so a bold name of 8 letters is exactly at the limit if Epic counts UTF-16 units:

Fortnite name symbols allowed
Epic has not published a list of symbols allowed in display names. These 13 symbols are short (1 character, 1 UTF-16 unit each) and sit in Unicode's Basic Multilingual Plane, which makes them the cheapest symbols to try against the 16-character limit:
Emoji are the riskiest choice: one third-party report says Epic rejects emoji in display names, and many emoji take 2 UTF-16 units or more. More symbol categories are on the aesthetic symbols copy and paste page.
Will a Fortnite font show correctly in the game?
A Fortnite font shows correctly only if the font Fortnite uses to draw names contains every character. A game that draws text with fonts packaged inside the game can lack characters that your phone or PC shows without trouble, and a missing character appears as a box. Characters in the Basic Multilingual Plane, such as small caps (ᴀ U+1D00) and fullwidth letters (Ａ U+FF21), are the lower-risk choice. Mathematical bold and cursive letters start at U+1D400. How to change your Fortnite name
You change your Fortnite name by changing your Epic Games display name in your Epic account settings on epicgames.com. Because the next change is locked for 2 weeks, test the styled name in this order:
- Build the name above and confirm its count is 16 or lower.
- Paste it into the display-name field and read any error before you save.
- Check that no character appears as a box in the field.
- Save, then check the name in the Fortnite lobby.
Fonts for other games
