Are Fancy Fonts Allowed?
Fancy fonts are allowed in display names, bios, captions and posts on Instagram, TikTok, Discord, X, YouTube and LinkedIn, and blocked in usernames and handles on all of them. Facebook is stricter: its name rules forbid symbols and unusual characters in profile names, so πππ²π is not an accepted Facebook name. No platform in the sources below bans styled letters themselves; account action follows from what the text is used for, such as impersonation or spam.
Where are fancy fonts allowed on each platform?
The table maps 8 platforms by field. Username fields reject styled text on every platform that publishes a character rule:
| Platform | Fancy text allowed in | Fancy text blocked in | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Name, bio, captions, comments | Username (letters, numbers, periods, underscores) | Secondary sources | |
| TikTok | Name, bio, captions | Username (letters, numbers, underscores, periods) | TikTok Support (archived) |
| Discord | Display name, About Me, messages, server names | Username (aβz, 0β9, _ and .); Server Tag (restricted set) | Discord Support |
| X (Twitter) | Display name, bio, posts | Handle (AβZ, 0β9, underscore) | X Help Center (archived) |
| YouTube | Channel name, titles, descriptions, comments | Handle (letters from 75 supported languages, plus _ - . Β·) | YouTube Help |
| Posts, comments, intro | Profile name (no symbols, unusual characters or mixed alphabets) | Facebook Help Center | |
| Posts, headline, About | No published field rule | β | |
| Roblox | Fullwidth letters passed the display-name validator | Username (aβz, 0β9, one _); circled letters in display names | Roblox validation API, tested Nov 2026 |
Facebook's name standards list 5 categories that profile names cannot contain: symbols, numbers, unusual capitalization, repeating characters or punctuation; characters from multiple languages; titles; words or phrases instead of a name; and offensive words. Mathematical bold and script letters fall under symbols and unusual characters.
Why do usernames reject fancy text?
Usernames reject fancy text because a username has to be unique, typeable and unambiguous. If πππ¦π’π§ were allowed, it would look identical to the plain username "admin" while being a different account. A plain character set also lets anyone type an @mention or profile URL on any keyboard. Unicode's own technical report on mathematical characters (UTR #25) states that these letters are excluded from "security sensitive environments, such as domain names" because they can be confused with styled text.
Can you get banned for using fancy text?
No platform rule in this research bans styled letters on their own, but 3 uses of fancy text can lead to account action:
- Impersonation. Look-alike letters that copy another person's or brand's name fall under the impersonation rules that major platforms publish. Cyrillic and Greek look-alikes are the highest risk, because they can match a plain name exactly; the russian font generator page shows how close they are.
- Filter evasion. Spelling a blocked word in styled letters to get past a chat or name filter breaks the filter's purpose. Roblox, for example, filters chat and requires games to filter user text such as pet names.
- Spam. Glitch text that covers other messages, or hundreds of combining marks in one message, is treated as disruptive by chat moderators.
A blocked name change is not a ban: a field that rejects the characters returns an error, and the account stays as it was.
Are font generator websites safe?
Yes, a font generator that runs in the browser is safe: it needs no download, no account and no device permission. This site converts text with JavaScript on your own device, and the text you type is never sent to a server. 2 related tools carry more risk:
- Font keyboard apps ask for "Full Access" on iPhone, which lets the keyboard transmit everything typed with it, including passwords. The guide how to type in cursive on iphone covers safer options.
- Browser extensions that request permission to read and change data on all websites can see every page you visit.
Is fancy text allowed in game names?
Game name rules vary, and most games do not publish their character list. 4 facts are documented:
- Roblox usernames accept only aβz, AβZ, 0β9 and one underscore; the display-name validator rejected circled letters, periods, hyphens and U+3164 in November 2026 tests. The roblox fonts page lists the tested results.
- Epic Games (Fortnite) display names are 3β16 characters and can change once every 2 weeks; Epic does not publish the allowed character set. See fortnite fonts.
- VRChat display names are 4β15 characters and can change once every 90 days (30 days with VRC+).
- Free Fire, PUBG Mobile and Mobile Legends publish no official name rules; players widely use symbols, and the free fire name style page lists combinations that fit short nickname fields.
