Instagram fonts are Unicode text styles, such as ๐’ธ๐“Š๐“‡๐“ˆ๐’พ๐“‹โ„ฏ, ๐—ฏ๐—ผ๐—น๐—ฑ and ๊œฑแดแด€สŸสŸ แด„แด€แด˜๊œฑ, that you copy from this generator and paste into your Instagram bio, name, captions and comments. Instagram has no font menu for profiles or posts, so pasted Unicode characters are the only way to change how that text looks.

Fonts for Instagram bio

An Instagram bio accepts every Unicode style on this page and holds 150 characters. The counter above is set to 150 by default and turns red when a style pushes the text past that limit.

The counter counts Unicode characters (code points). Styled letters from the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block, such as ๐—• or ๐“‘, each take 2 UTF-16 code units, so any counter that measures UTF-16 units charges 2 per styled letter. Decorations add characters too: the frame in "โ‚ŠหšโŠนโ™ก สœษช โ™กโŠนหšโ‚Š" adds 10 characters to a 2-letter word.

These 4 bio layouts keep the styled part short:

  • Styled name line, plain details: ๐“œ๐“ช๐”‚๐“ช โœง photographer in Lisbon
  • Small caps label: ษดแดแดก ส™แดแดแด‹ษชษดษข โ†’ link below
  • Framed keyword: โ‚ŠหšโŠนโ™ก ส™แด€แด‹แด‡ส€ โ™กโŠนหšโ‚Š
  • Divider between lines: โ‹†๏ฝกยฐโœฉ โ‹†๏ฝกยฐโœฉ โ‹†๏ฝกยฐโœฉ

Borders and dividers for bio lines are collected on the text borders page, and single decorations such as โ™ก and โœง on the aesthetic symbols page.

Fonts for Instagram name

The Instagram Name field accepts Unicode styles, while the Instagram username does not. A username accepts only letters, numbers, periods and underscores, so "maya.rose_" is valid and "๐“‚๐’ถ๐“Ž๐’ถ" is rejected.

The Name is the bold line shown above the bio and in search results. A styled name such as ๐— ๐—ฎ๐˜†๐—ฎ ๐—ฅ๐—ผ๐˜€๐—ฒ is a different sequence of characters from "Maya Rose", and Instagram has published no statement on whether its search matches the two. Writing the name in plain letters and styling a second word, such as "Maya Rose ๐“ˆ๐“‰๐“Š๐’น๐’พโ„ด", keeps the searchable part plain.

Which Instagram fields accept fancy text?

Fancy text works in 5 of the 6 Instagram text fields people style most often:

FieldFancy textLimit
UsernameRejected (letters, numbers, periods, underscores only)โ€”
NameAcceptedโ€”
BioAccepted150 characters
CaptionAccepted2,200 characters (Meta developer docs)
CommentAccepted2,200 characters
HashtagAccepted, but becomes a different tag5 hashtags per post since December 2025

A hashtag typed in styled letters, such as #๐˜๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐—น, is a different character string from #travel, so the post does not join the plain #travel tag. Keep hashtags and @mentions in plain letters. Instagram cut the hashtag limit from 30 to 5 per post and Reel in a rollout that began in December 2025 (reported by Social Media Today).

Instagram fonts that work on every phone

Instagram fonts that work for nearly every follower come from the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block: bold, italic, cursive, gothic, double-struck and monospace. Windows has shipped Cambria Math, a font covering that block, since Windows Vista.

4 style groups carry known gaps or rendering risks:

  • Small caps (๊œฑแดแด€สŸสŸ แด„แด€แด˜๊œฑ): Unicode has no small capital X, and the small capital Q (๊žฏ, U+A7AF) dates from Unicode 11.0 in 2018, so the generator leaves q and x as plain letters. The small text generator lists every gap.
  • Bubble letters (โ“‘โ“คโ“‘โ“‘โ“›โ“”): Enclosed Alphanumerics have one character per letter and digit 0โ€“20; the bubble text generator covers the black-circle version.
  • Strikethrough (sฬถaฬถlฬถeฬถ): each letter gets an extra combining character, so "sale" becomes 8 characters.
  • Rare symbols in frames: a follower's phone without the glyph shows a box instead of the symbol.

The guide why fancy text shows boxes explains which characters fail on which systems.

Does Instagram have its own fonts?

Instagram has built-in fonts only in Stories and Reels text, not in the bio, name or captions. Stories launched with 5 fonts (Modern, Classic, Neon, Typewriter and Strong) and gained more in 2020 and 2024 updates. A Stories font stays inside the image or video; it cannot be copied as text. The step-by-step guide how to change font on Instagram covers Stories, the bio, the name and captions.

Can screen readers read Instagram fonts?

Screen readers handle Instagram fonts inconsistently. In Adrian Roselli's 2025 tests, JAWS read styled letters one by one by their Unicode names, NVDA, Narrator and VoiceOver on macOS and iPadOS skipped them entirely, and TalkBack read them as normal words (source). A bio written entirely in a styled font is silent or unreadable for many blind followers. The fancy text accessibility guide lists ways to keep key information plain.

Instagram fonts questions

Can I use fancy fonts in my Instagram username?

No. An Instagram username accepts only letters, numbers, periods and underscores, so styled Unicode letters are rejected. Put the styled text in the Name field instead, which accepts Unicode.

Do fancy fonts make my Instagram profile harder to find?

Instagram has published no statement on how search treats styled letters in names. A styled name is a different string of characters from the plain name, so keeping the searchable part of the name in plain letters removes the risk.

Why do some Instagram fonts show as boxes for my followers?

A follower sees a box when their phone has no font that contains the styled character. Bold, italic and cursive letters have the widest support; rare symbols and recently added characters such as the small capital ๊žฏ fail most often.
