Monospace text uses the Mathematical Monospace alphabet, U+1D670–U+1D6A3 for 52 letters, and the monospace digits U+1D7F6–U+1D7FF. The set has 62 characters and no gaps: every capital, lowercase letter and digit has a monospace form.

Monospace text vs code formatting

Monospace text questions

Is monospace text the same as typewriter font?

Yes, for copy and paste. Typewriter and monospace both mean every character has the same width. Unicode encodes one monospace alphabet, which looks like a typewriter or code font.

Does monospace text keep the columns aligned?

Only for letters and digits. Spaces and punctuation stay as plain characters from the app font, which are usually narrower, so tables made of monospace Unicode text drift out of alignment. Code formatting such as ```text``` keeps every character aligned.

Can I search for words written in monospace text?

No. 𝚌𝚘𝚍𝚎 is a different string of characters from β€œcode”, so in-app search and hashtags do not match it.
