Other aesthetic symbols

Aesthetic symbols are Unicode characters, such as ♡, ✧, ➳ and ❀, that decorate text in bios, names, captions and channel names. Click any symbol to copy it. This page shows 108 of the most-used symbols in 10 categories, and 9 categories have a full page with every variant.

Where do aesthetic symbols come from?

Aesthetic symbols come from Unicode blocks that were designed for other purposes. There are 5 blocks that supply most of them:

  • Dingbats (U+2700–U+27BF): florettes ✿ ❀, stars ✦ ✧, check marks ✓ ✔ and feathered arrows ➳.
  • Miscellaneous Symbols (U+2600–U+26FF): card-suit hearts ♡ ♥, chess crowns ♛ ♕, stars ★ ☆ and weather ☁ ☀.
  • Arrows (U+2190–U+21FF): 112 arrows, including ← ↑ → ↓ and ↳.
  • Box Drawing (U+2500–U+257F): 128 line pieces such as ─ ━ ┈ that build dividers and frames.
  • Emoji blocks (U+1F300–U+1FAFF): colour pictographs such as 🩷 🌸 👑 ✨.

Many "aesthetic" characters are letters from real writing systems. ღ is the Georgian letter ghan (U+10E6), ʚ and ɞ are Latin phonetic letters (U+029A, U+025E), and ꒰ ꒱ are Yi radicals (U+A4B0, U+A4B1). A screen reader announces these by their letter names, not as decorations.

Text symbols vs emoji

Text symbols take the colour of the surrounding text, and emoji display in fixed colour. Some characters, such as ❤ (U+2764), have both forms: adding the variation selector U+FE0F produces the emoji ❤️, and U+FE0E forces the text form ❤︎. The emoji form is 2 Unicode characters long, so it counts as 2 toward a field limit on most platforms. The social media character limits page lists each platform's limits.

How to use symbols with fancy text

Symbols combine with styled letters because both are plain Unicode text. Generate a name with the aesthetic font generator, then add a symbol on each side, such as ✧ 𝓛𝓾𝓷𝓪 ✧. The stylish name generator applies ready-made symbol frames, and the invisible character copy and paste page provides blank spacing characters that apps do not trim.

Symbols that show as boxes

A symbol shows as an empty box when the reader's device has no font that contains it. Newer additions, such as 🩷 (Unicode 15.0, 2022) and Egyptian hieroglyphs like 𓆩 𓆪, fail most often on older phones. The guide why fancy text shows boxes explains the cause and the safest choices.
