How to Change Font on Instagram
To change the font on Instagram, paste text that is already styled with Unicode characters into your bio, name, caption or comment, because Instagram has no font setting for those fields. Stories and Reels are the exception: their text tool has built-in fonts. The styled text comes from a generator such as the Instagram fonts tool, which shows every style that works on Instagram with a 150-character bio counter.
Which Instagram fields can change font?
5 Instagram fields accept a different font, and 1 does not:
| Field | Method | Works? |
|---|---|---|
| Bio | Paste Unicode-styled text | Yes, up to 150 characters |
| Name | Paste Unicode-styled text | Yes |
| Caption | Paste Unicode-styled text | Yes, up to 2,200 characters |
| Comment | Paste Unicode-styled text | Yes |
| Stories and Reels text | Built-in font picker | Yes, inside the image or video |
| Username | โ | No: letters, numbers, periods and underscores only |
How to change font on Instagram bio
You change the font of an Instagram bio in 5 steps:
- Type your bio text into the Instagram fonts generator.
- Tap Copy next to the style you want, for example ๐๐๐๐๐พ๐โฏ or ๊ฑแดแดสส แดแดแด๊ฑ.
- Open Instagram, go to your profile and tap Edit profile.
- Tap the Bio field and paste the styled text. Mix it with plain text if you want only one line styled.
- Save. Check the result on the profile, because a few rare symbols show as boxes on some phones.
Keep the bio within 150 characters. Styled frames add characters: "โหโนโก สแดแดแดส โกโนหโ" is 15 characters for a 5-letter word.
How to change font on Instagram name
You change the font of an Instagram name the same way as the bio: copy the styled name, open Edit profile, tap Name, paste and save. The name is the bold line above the bio, not the @username. The username cannot change font, because Instagram accepts only letters, numbers, periods and underscores in it.
A styled name is a different string of characters from the plain name, and Instagram has published nothing on how search treats it. "Maya Rose ๐๐๐๐น๐พโด" styles only the extra word and keeps "Maya Rose" plain for search.
How to change font on Instagram captions and comments
You change the font of a caption or comment by pasting styled text while writing it. Instagram captions hold 2,200 characters, according to Meta's developer documentation. 2 rules keep styled captions working:
- Keep hashtags plain. #๐๐ฟ๐ฎ๐๐ฒ๐น is a different tag from #travel, and posts carry at most 5 hashtags since December 2025.
- Keep @mentions plain. A styled mention does not link to the account.
How to change font on Instagram Stories
You change the font on Instagram Stories with the built-in text tool: add text with the Aa button, then swipe through the font names shown above the keyboard. Stories launched with 5 fonts (Modern, Classic, Neon, Typewriter and Strong), and Instagram added more in 2020 and 2024. A Stories font becomes part of the image or video, so it cannot be copied as text into a bio or caption.
Unicode styles also work in Stories: paste ๐๐ป๐ฒ๐ญ๐ช๐ into a Stories text box and it keeps the cursive shape in any of the built-in fonts.
Why does my Instagram font show as boxes?
Instagram text shows boxes when the viewer's phone has no font containing the styled character. Bold, italic and cursive from the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block rarely fail; decorative symbols and recently added letters, such as the small capital ๊ฏ from Unicode 11.0, fail most often. The guide why fancy text shows boxes lists the causes, and the fancy text accessibility guide covers how screen readers handle styled bios.
