Bullet points for LinkedIn posts
LinkedIn posts need pasted bullet symbols because the post composer has no list button. A LinkedIn post holds up to 3,000 characters, and a bullet plus its following space uses 2 of them per line. These 3 bullets cover most LinkedIn lists:
- • (U+2022) for plain lists.
- ▸ (U+25B8) for step lists and key points.
- ✓ (U+2713) for results and checklists.
What I learned this quarter:
▸ Ship small changes weekly
▸ Write the doc before the code
▸ Measure one metric per project
Screen readers announce text bullets by name, such as "bullet" or "black right-pointing small triangle", at the start of each line. Emoji bullets are announced by their emoji name, for example "small blue diamond". For bold or italic words inside the list, use the LinkedIn text formatter.
Arrow, diamond and square bullets
There are 13 shape bullets for lists that need more visual weight than a dot:
| Bullet | Code point | Unicode name |
|---|---|---|
| ▸ | U+25B8 | Black right-pointing small triangle |
| ▹ | U+25B9 | White right-pointing small triangle |
| ► | U+25BA | Black right-pointing pointer |

▸ ▹ ► ◆ ◇ ▪ ▫ ■ □ come from the Geometric Shapes block (U+25A0–U+25FF). More arrowheads are on the arrow symbols copy and paste page.
Emoji bullet points
There are 14 emoji used as colourful list markers in captions and posts:
Each emoji counts as 1 or 2 code points: 🔹 (U+1F539) is 1, and ▶️ and ➡️ are a text symbol plus U+FE0F, so they are 2. On X, every emoji weighs 2 toward the 280-character limit.
Bullets with other list symbols
Check marks make finished-item lists clearer. The check mark symbol copy and paste page has ✓ ✔ ☑ and matching ✗ crosses. Every symbol category is on the aesthetic symbols copy and paste page.
Bullet point questions
How do I add bullet points to a LinkedIn post?
The LinkedIn post composer has no bulleted-list button, so bullets are added as characters. Copy • (U+2022) or ▸ (U+25B8), paste it at the start of each line, and add one space after it. Long-form LinkedIn articles have a list button and do not need pasted bullets.
How do I type a bullet point on a keyboard?
On Windows, hold Alt and type 0149 on the number pad to get •. On a Mac, press Option + 8. On iPhone and Android keyboards, open the symbols page (?123, then #+= or =\<) to find •.
