Roblox fonts are Unicode text styles that you copy and paste into your Roblox display name, profile bio or in-game names, such as Roblox. Roblox validates display names on its servers, so only some styles pass. The tool above labels each style with the result of our test against Roblox's own name checks, run on 5 November 2026.
Which Roblox fonts work in display names?
Wide (fullwidth) letters passed Roblox's display-name check, and bubble letters failed it. We sent sample names to Roblox's public
display-name and username validation endpoints (users.roblox.com/v1/display-names/validate and
auth.roblox.com/v1/usernames/validate) on 5 November 2026. The 7 results:
| Input | Field | Roblox's response |
|---|---|---|
| ABCD (fullwidth) | Display name | Accepted |
| ⒶⒷⒸⒹ (circled) | Display name | "Display name contains invalid characters" |
| Period (.) and hyphen (-) | Display name | Rejected |
| U+3164 Hangul filler (blank) | Display name | Rejected |
| Katakana (アイウ) | Display name | Rejected for a signed-out check (Japanese is in beta) |
| 𝐀bcd (bold) | Username | "Only a-z, A-Z, 0-9, and _ are allowed" |
| Bold, small caps, accented letters | Display name | No result: Roblox's firewall blocked the request |
The checks ran without a signed-in account. Roblox's help page says Japanese display names are "currently in beta and not available to all users", so a signed-in account can get a different answer for non-Latin characters. Type the name into the display-name box in Roblox settings to run the same check for your own account.
Roblox display name vs username rules
Roblox has 2 name fields with different rules, and fancy fonts are only possible in the display name:
| Rule | Username | Display name |
|---|---|---|
| Length | 3–20 characters | 3–20 characters |
| Characters | a–z, A–Z, 0–9 and at most one _ (not first or last), no spaces | Latin letters plus some Unicode; Japanese in beta |
| Fancy fonts | Rejected | Wide letters accepted, bubble letters rejected |
| Changing it | Costs Robux | Free, once every 7 days |
The 7-day rule makes a failed experiment expensive in time, not Robux. A display name that turns out to render badly stays on your profile for a week.
How many characters does a Roblox font name use?
Wide letters use 1 character each, the same as plain letters, so a fullwidth display name has the full 3–20 character range. The counter in the tool counts Unicode characters (code points). Roblox does not document whether it counts code points or UTF-16 units, so names built from supplementary-plane characters (U+10000 and above), such as bold or squared letters, carry extra risk at the limit:
| Name style | Characters (code points) | UTF-16 units | Outside the BMP |
|---|---|---|---|
| RobloxPlayer | 12 | 12 | 0 |
| ʀᴏʙʟᴏxᴘʟᴀʏᴇʀ | 12 | 12 | 0 |
| 𝗥𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗼𝘅𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗿 | 12 | 24 | 12 |
| 𝓡𝓸𝓫𝓵𝓸𝔁𝓟𝓵𝓪𝔂𝓮𝓻 | 12 | 24 | 12 |
Fullwidth and small-cap letters sit in the Basic Multilingual Plane (BMP), at 1 UTF-16 unit each. Bold and cursive letters sit at U+1D400 and above, at 2 UTF-16 units each. The social media character limits page explains the difference between the 2 counts.
Fonts for Adopt Me and Berry Avenue names
Adopt Me pet names and Berry Avenue roleplay names go through Roblox's text filter, not through the display-name check. Roblox's
developer documentation requires every experience to filter user-entered text, naming "users' pet names" as an example, with
TextService:FilterStringAsync(). The filter decides per string, so a style that works for one pet name can be filtered for
another.
There are 3 practical rules for pet and roleplay names:
- Name the pet in-game with the styled text and check what other players see before you rely on it.
- Prefer BMP styles such as small caps ʙᴜɴɴʏ or wide letters bunny: they render in more fonts than bold or cursive.
- Keep a plain-letter word in the name so the name still reads if the filter removes the styled part.
Cute frames such as ₊˚⊹♡ ʙᴜɴɴʏ ♡⊹˚₊ are popular for pet names. The cute font generator builds them, and the same filter caution applies.
Roblox fonts for your bio and chat
Your Roblox profile bio (the "About" blurb) and chat accept more styles than the display name, because Roblox filters them for content rather than validating characters. Roblox's chat help page states that filtered chat is the default and that "messages with profanity will be rephrased into a safe and civil message automatically." Bold, cursive and small-cap text therefore reach other players unless the filter flags the words themselves.
For bios, the aesthetic symbols copy and paste page adds decorations such as ★ ♡ ✧, and the small text generator produces the small-cap and tiny letters that suit short profile lines.
Fonts for other games
Other games use their own name rules. Fortnite fonts covers Epic's 3–16 character display names, and VRChat fonts covers names that can only change every 90 days. For symbol frames around a name, the stylish name generator lists 13 frame styles.
Roblox fonts questions
Can you use fancy fonts in a Roblox username?
No. Roblox usernames accept only a–z, A–Z, 0–9 and one underscore, 3 to 20 characters long. Roblox's username check answered a bold 𝐀 with "Only a-z, A-Z, 0-9, and _ are allowed."
How often can you change your Roblox display name?
Once every 7 days. Roblox's help page on changing your display name states the limit as "one time every seven days." A username change is separate and costs Robux.
Why does Roblox turn my fancy text into hashtags?
Roblox runs all user-entered text through its text filter. Older chat and many experiences show blocked text as hash marks (####). The current chat help page says profanity in chat is now rephrased automatically, so the result depends on where the text appears.
