Twitter fonts are Unicode text styles, such as ๐ฏ๐ผ๐น๐ฑ, ๐ช๐ต๐ข๐ญ๐ช๐ค and sฬถtฬถrฬถiฬถkฬถeฬถtฬถhฬถrฬถoฬถuฬถgฬถhฬถ, that you copy from this generator and paste into X (formerly Twitter) posts, your display name and your bio. The Post counter above uses X's own weighted counting, so it shows the number X shows.
How does X count fancy text?
X counts a post with weights: characters in 4 Unicode ranges weigh 1, and every other character weighs 2, up to a total of 280. The 4 light ranges, from X's open-source twitter-text configuration, are U+0000โU+10FF (Latin, Greek, Cyrillic, combining marks and more), U+2000โU+200D, U+2010โU+201F and U+2032โU+2037.
The weight decides how many styled letters fit in 1 post. These 8 styles show the spread for the 26 lowercase letters:
| Style | Example | Weight of aโz | Letters per 280 post |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plain | news | 26 | 280 |
| Bold sans | ๐ป๐ฒ๐๐ | 52 | 140 |
| Italic sans | ๐ฏ๐ฆ๐ธ๐ด | 52 | 140 |
| Cursive | ๐โฏ๐๐ | 52 | 140 |
| Small caps | ษดแดแดก๊ฑ | 42 | about 170 |
| Strikethrough | nฬถeฬถwฬถsฬถ | 52 | 140 |
| Upside down | sสวu | 27 | about 270 |
| Wide (fullwidth) | ๏ฝ๏ฝ ๏ฝ๏ฝ | 52 | 140 |
Small caps are the cheapest readable style on X. 8 small capitals (ส ษข ส ษช ส ษด ส ส) come from the IPA Extensions block inside the light range and weigh 1, while the other small capitals come from Phonetic Extensions (U+1D00) and weigh 2. Upside-down text is cheaper still because most flipped letters are IPA characters. Strikethrough weighs 2 per letter for a different reason: the stroke is a separate combining character (U+0336), and the letter and the stroke weigh 1 each.
Fonts for X display name and bio
The X display name accepts Unicode styles and holds 50 characters; the bio accepts them and holds 160 characters (X Help Center). A styled display name such as ๐๐ฎ๐ป๐ฎ ๐๐ถ๐บ | แด แด๊ฑษชษขษด shows next to every post and reply.
The X username (handle) does not accept styles. It holds up to 15 characters from AโZ, 0โ9 and the underscore, so "dana_kim" is valid and "๐ฑ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฎ" is not.
Which X fields accept fancy text?
Fancy text works in 3 of the 4 X profile and post fields:
| Field | Fancy text | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Username (@handle) | Rejected (AโZ, 0โ9, _ only) | 15 characters |
| Display name | Accepted | 50 characters |
| Bio | Accepted | 160 characters |
| Post | Accepted, styled letters weigh 2 | 280 weighted |
Limits come from X's Help Center pages on username rules and profile customization. The social media character limits table compares X with Instagram, TikTok and Discord.
Twitter fonts for emphasis in posts
Twitter fonts work best on 1โ3 words per post, such as a heading line or a key phrase, because each styled word costs double and stops being searchable. A post that starts "๐จ๐ฝ๐ฑ๐ฎ๐๐ฒ: the beta opens Monday" keeps the searchable words plain. Hashtags and @mentions in styled letters stop working as links, because #๐ป๐ฒ๐๐ is a different string from #news.
Sans-serif bold and italic match the look of X's interface more closely than the serif versions. The bold text generator and the italic text generator show both versions with their full alphabets.
Can screen readers read Twitter fonts?
Screen readers read Twitter fonts inconsistently. In Adrian Roselli's 2025 tests, JAWS read styled letters one by one by their Unicode names, NVDA, Narrator and recent VoiceOver skipped them, and TalkBack read them as normal words. A 2019 VoiceOver recording shared by developer Kent C. Dodds on Twitter showed a styled post read out letter by letter, which made the post hard to follow. The fancy text accessibility guide lists safer ways to emphasize words.

Strikethrough jokes ("wฬถoฬถrฬถkฬถiฬถnฬถgฬถ napping") are made with the strikethrough text generator, which also offers slash and short-stroke versions. Styled text copied from a post can be turned back with the fancy text to normal text converter.
Twitter fonts questions
Why does bold text use up my 280 characters twice as fast?
X weighs every character outside 4 Unicode ranges as 2. Bold, italic and cursive letters sit in the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block, outside those ranges, so each one costs 2 and a fully bold post fits 140 letters.
Can I use fancy fonts in my X handle?
No. An X username accepts only letters AโZ, digits 0โ9 and underscores, with a maximum of 15 characters. Styled letters belong in the 50-character display name.
Do styled letters stay styled when a post is reposted or quoted?
Yes. Styled letters are Unicode characters, not formatting, so they keep their look in the timeline, in replies, in reposts and when the text is copied into another app.
